Economists defend internationalisation to achieve SME's growth

BBVA chief economist, Jorge Sicilia, and the Professor of Economics at Complutense University Rafael Myro defended today the internationalisation of Spanish companies as a way for SME's to grow and to increase their productivity.

In a globalised economy which besides is submitted to a record technologic revolution, the internationalisation process and, especially in Spain, policies to encourage companies' development must be encourage "It is important to continue encouraging the huge internationalisation process made during these years", he said after the assertion: "it must be a decent solution which leads to higher growth".

Mr Sicilia has also highlighted the importance of encouraging competitiveness, productivity and innovation, as well as removing labour market, fiscal or human capital barriers which limit companies’ growth.

He has also added that public policies must facilitate the internationalisation process, open up new markets, increase internal competition and improve labour market adjustment as well as the functioning of the institutions.

Regarding new technologies, he has said that digitalisation is the essential "lever" to achieve a greater presence of SME's abroad.
