Spanish brands exports grow 43% since 2008
The crisis and private labels boom have forced Spanish brands producers to update their offer and pursuit a sustained growth mainly in the foreign market.
During the crisis years, Spanish producers’ profits were reduced while private labels sales were increasing. In order to face the situation, Spanish brands of food, beverage, hardware store products and items for children responded with effort and innovation
"If the industry has maintained its competitiveness is, mainly, due to manufacturer's brands exports", the report has revealed.
This report estimates that exports represent 2.5% of GDP (0.4% more than in 2011). According to the last economic report of FIAB (The Spanish Food and Beverage Industry Federation), the majority of the products sold in foreign markets belong to the food and beverage group and they are wine, meat and oil, principally, which represents 80% of total.
However, private labels also registered positives rates regarding exports. In the top 50 of the most exported products, ten belong to brands of the main supermarket chains of the country, and, regarding the group of private labels, they have been sold abroad of Spain 41% more than between 2008 and 2014.
